CAMRIS Joins Military Health Leaders at MHSRS 2025
From August 4-7, 2025, CAMRIS attended the Military Health System Research Symposium (MHSRS) in Kissimmee, Florida. We joined the nearly 4,000 medical, research, and military health professionals for a week dedicated to advancing the science and practice of military medicine.
As a long-standing partner to the Department of Defense and other U.S. government agencies, CAMRIS brings decades of expertise in infectious disease research, vaccine and therapeutic development, biosurveillance, laboratory operations, clinical trials, IT, and program management. MHSRS offered an opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen relationships, and explore new ways to protect warfighter health and advance global health security.
Dr. Steve Ferrara, Acting Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, opened the symposium with an inspiring plenary session, launching a week filled with learning, innovation, meaningful discussions, and collaborative opportunities. Our team gained valuable insights on infectious disease prevention, operational medicine, behavioral health, AI-enabled biosurveillance, and emerging biomedical technologies; areas closely tied to our work developing vaccines and therapeutics for high-consequence pathogens.
A key highlight for us was a session on the epidemiology, prevention, and treatment of enteric diseases, featuring experts from the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) and other leaders. Discussions covered advances in surveillance, laboratory science, and bioprocessing - fields where CAMRIS actively supports operations in advanced infectious disease labs, vaccine bioproduction, and studies that transition countermeasures from the lab to the field.
Throughout the week, we met with partners across the military health community, including the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command (MRDC), the Defense Health Agency (DHA), academic institutions, industry leaders, and collaborators supporting the Naval Health Research Center (NHRC) and Naval Medical Research Unit – Dayton (NAMRU-D). We also connected with WRAIR colleagues during a special midweek gathering, reflecting on our shared work through the Pilot Bioproduction Facility (PBF) to produce vaccines and therapeutics for infectious disease threats.
Beyond bioproduction, CAMRIS conducts disease surveillance and biosurveillance, ensures quality and regulatory compliance, manages complex supply chains, and provides the logistical, operational, and management support needed to bring countermeasures where they are most needed.
Midweek, we joined our parent company, The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF), for a reception celebrating the collective effort that made MHSRS 2025 a success. The event provided a relaxed environment to strengthen connections and exchange ideas across the defense health and research communities.
Thank you to everyone who visited Booth #512, shared ideas, and explored ways to advance warfighter health. The sessions, discussions, and networking events underscored the power of pairing scientific innovation with operational excellence.
As we reflect on MHSRS 2025, we do so with renewed energy, stronger partnerships, and a continued commitment to advancing military medicine. We look forward to building on the progress made at MHSRS and returning next year with even more to share.
